Part 1
BORRISON IVY appear live on Dubai Radio 92 FM Saturday the 23 August 2008. DJ, Zahra Soar, kindly asks the band to appear on the show to showcase their original, upbeat, catchy rock songs over 45 minutes.
Listen to/download the show, or watch the behind-the-scenes video as Zahra chats with Borrison Ivy band members, introducing Richard Barber, Quay Evano and Marc McWilliam. The band discuss the changes in the line-up due to Lannon's relocating to New Zealand and the position vacant for a Dubai-based, hard-rocking lead singer.
Also covered is the origin of the band's name and their progress so far in completing 6 tracks of their demo album using live recording.
Richard goes on to explain that immediate future plans for contributing to the original music scene in the UAE are, firstly, to finish recording the remaining 6 demo tracks and to play gigs in October at Rock Nation, Sharjah Wanderers Club and at Klub 88 in the Ras Al Khaimah Hotel.
The band finish up with an explanation of the meaning behind Salary Slut.
Part 2
Salary Slut is played on air for the first time in Dubai - helping boost the Middle East original rock music scene!
Richard and Zahra discuss various topics, including how Borrison Ivy's live performance at Alliance Francais' Fete de la Musique at Souq Madinat Jumeirah was so well received. They also discuss the upcoming show at Touch nightclub in Four Points Sheraton, Bur Dubai.
Richard lets listeners in the UAE know that they can download the live demos they are hearing on the radio from the band's MySpace site.
Before being played, Asian Girls is introduced by Richard who talks about why he wrote it and then Zahra checks out the Borrison Ivy articles in Time Out Dubai and The Gulf Today during a commercial break.
Part 3
Richard and Quay talk about Lonely Lonely Days on and off air and how the song is both dark, hopeful and a change of pace - all rolled into one!
Richard also talks about the meaning of the song and the reason for his initial reluctance to show it to anyone.
The band explain the time period over which the songs were written, talk about the name of the debut album and why they might dedicate a song live on stage to a dead plant!
Richard also explains why they want to have a demo CD at a good enough quality to impress.
Part 4
Borrison Ivy talk about the next, immediate, steps for the band as well as what INXS, Dubai Lime, Dubizzle and Musolist have in common.
Also, Dubai-based listeners get to hear Borrison Ivy's original, pumpingly solid rock song Hobart, Tasmania and the reason why Tasmania's Tourism Board would probably never want to use….but why it would be funny if they did!
Watch the band members "ummm", "aaaaah" and squirm as they wrestle with the question of whether to reveal to host, Zahra Soar, that their catchy shuffling rock song Damned If You Do does, actually, have the word "fu*k" in it.
And, given the chance to choose any song that they all agree upon as a favourite song of all three band members to be played on air, what do they choose? Thunderstruck!
Part 5
Richard explains writing the lyrics for Hobart, Tasmania and why memories of growing up became inspiration for this punchy, roaring rock song where the hard-hitting chorus is as full of angst as it is catchy.
The band groove along with a great ACDC track and Zahra grabs her camera to capture Quay, Richard and Marc at their debut radio appearance live in her Dubai-based studio!
Part 6
Watch how Richard explains why the topic of 'misinterpretation' was the inspiration behind Borrison Ivy's original rock song Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't (the song's full title).
Then watch how the both the host, and the band members, scramble to kill the fader on the word 'fu*k' and…well, kind of cut it out.
Borrison Ivy's catchy, original pop/rock song about overbearing love, Brake! Baby is the last track for the show before Zahra, the band's gracious and welcoming host who promotes new, original bands in Dubai, wraps up Borrison Ivy's debut radio appearance at Dubai Radio 92FM Open Mic.
